ARCVic Social Group
For upcoming events see the ARCVic Social Group Calendar:
ARCVic's Social Group has been running for 13 years, coordinated by Tabitha (Coordinator - Consumer Services). The Group holds regular monthly events, and is open to all people with anxiety disorders, families and friends. The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity for people affected by anxiety disorders to connect with others in a social setting that is safe, comfortable and enjoyable. For people who are socially isolated, or find it difficult to go out with others who are not aware of, or sensitive to, their anxieties and situations that might trigger their symptoms, this group allows you to be social, go out, and know that everyone else will be accepting and supportive of your particular needs. The group is open to anyone aged 16 years and above - the average age range of many people who attend the group is between 24 - 35 years old, however there are some regular members who are in their 50s and older. Generally around 10 - 15 people attend each event. The social event calendar for each year usually includes a range of activities, including bowling, dining (very popular!), attending markets, movies, visits to Melbourne attractions - the Museum, Arts Centre, Aquarium, Zoo and Botanical Gardens, and sometimes some more energetic activities like volleyball and ice-skating.
Tabitha is a very busy person, but occasionally she gets around to writing up a report about the Social Group's activities! Below are a few reports from previous years that were written by Jessica Bernales who is currently on leave. You may like to read these to give you more of an idea about the activities and the 'spirit' of the group (PDF files):
